Patriotic Pizazz

I think it goes without saying that I am a proudpatriotic girl. So, with the upcoming holiday ahead, I knew it was necessary to post a little patriotic post! Gathering up some beautiful and crafty images from Martha Stewart, here are some ways to dazzle your Patriotic Party!

Oh, the red, white, and blue! Such vibrant, perfect colors to decorate the day. My favorite pieces are the stars and stripes gazebo trims and those perfect pinwheels. What are yours?

Now, I won't be having my own holiday party :rats!: but I will be surely be celebrating! In fact, I'll be taking off early tomorrow for a weekend trip, but I do wish everyone a fantastic holiday.

Now, while your partying, boozin', or beaching it up, please be sure to celebrate this glorious day and honor the memory of those who have laid their lives to protect their country. That is after all what Memorial Day is all about. :)

Monday Marvel

Okay, okay...Back to the blogging world! I've slowly fluttered down from cloud nine and no choice but to get back to reality. At least I'm blogging about lovely and wonderful things for my favorite peeps!

For today's { Monday Marvel } I have a super awesome DIY project! Using my usual boredom remedy, StumbleUpon.com, I came across a cute little blog called { Dream Green DIY } with some rather crafty and clever ideas. One of their most recent projects has sparked my interest and I fully intend on creating my own version. Step by step, here is their ingenious idea to cover up a not-so-awesome piece of art...get ready for awesomeness!

Welp, I'm impressed! And totally ready to do this myself! Super easy, and super cheap! Right up my alley. Posting soon, get ready for a glorious { Tuesday Shoesday } tomorrow!

Preparing for a Homecoming

The time has come, and I can't believe it is here.

My Marine is coming home!

Commence happy dance!

I never thought the day would come but 265 days later, here we are! In preparation for his homecoming, I am taking full advantage of the moment and DIYing until my heart is content. Signs, signs, and more signs!

Just a little peek at what I've been up to over the past few weeks! There's still lots more to be done, and believe it or not, another sign needs to be hung! Yes, outside our home, a sign will welcome my Marine home. And balloons! Of course.

Feeling anxious, giddy, excited and I think my heart might burst because of too much happiness...

Military Spouse Appreciation Day

Happy Friday and happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day! If you know a military spouse, thank them! If you are one, give yourself a serious pat on the back and then buy yourself a cookie because you deserve it!

From Mr. President himself...
Military spouses serve as steady and supportive partners to the heroes in uniform who protect and defend our great Nation every day.  Across America and around the world, military spouses serve our country in their own special way, helping families and friends through the stress of a deployment, caring for our wounded warriors, and supporting each other when a loved one has made the ultimate sacrifice.
Our service members and their families seldom ask for support or recognition.  They carry out their duties to family and country with the quiet courage and strength that has always exemplified the American spirit.  On Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we have an opportunity to not only honor the husbands and wives of our service members, but also thank them by actively expressing our gratitude in both word and deed.
When a member of our Armed Forces is deployed, an entire family is called to serve.  The readiness of our troops depends on the readiness of our military families, as millions of parents, children, and loved ones sacrifice as well.  This means supporting our military spouses is also a national security imperative.  Earlier this year, my Administration released the report on military families, Strengthening our Military Families:  Meeting America's Commitment, which marshaled resources from across our Government to identify new opportunities to support these patriots.
First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden are working tirelessly to enlist all sectors of American life to address the unique challenges of military families.  Their national initiative, "Joining Forces," mobilizes Americans to give our service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned.  Americans can find service projects, send messages of thanks to military families, and learn more about this initiative by visiting: www.JoiningForces.gov.
On Military Spouse Appreciation Day, let us join together to show our service members we are taking care of their families back home as they serve our Nation across the globe.  As neighbors, teachers, parents, and fellow citizens, we can reach out to military husbands and wives in our communities.  We can show our appreciation in countless ways, from offering to help with household maintenance and childcare to encouraging the community involvement and career development of military spouses.

It is through our actions that we show our commitment to our service members and their spouses.  By embracing military families, we demonstrate our partnership in the defense of our freedom and the security of the United States.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 6, 2011, as Military Spouse Appreciation Day.  I call upon the people of the United States to honor military spouses with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fifth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fifth.

Happy Birthday to My Marine

A little side note for my readers...

For those of you who don't know, my boyfriend is currently deployed. After leaving last August for his (and my) first deployment, as of today they are currently heading home! My heart goes pitter patter at the thought of having him in my arms again. After approximately 256 days, 9 hours, and 13 minutes...we have finally reached the single digits. :pitter patter:

In the upcoming days, you'll be seeing some super fun posts on my preparation for my Marine's homecoming. I've been working my toosh off on a few projects, and I can't wait to share them with the world. Homecoming signs and balloons galore, this boy has no idea what's about to hit him.

Happy birthday to my hero, my best friend, and the love of my life. I will see you in but a few days.
