Saturday, October 1st was by far one of the most beautiful fall days Wilmington has seen yet. Clear skies, a cool morning, the weather was quite promising. My Marine and I had made plans to have a romantic little picnic on the beach, an idea I picked up from a fellow Marine spouse. I was thrilled, thinking we were finally doing something cute and romantic! The past few months have been quite chaotic and it was great for my Marine to recommend the little outing.
After prancing around Harris Teeter picking out all the finest cheeses and hors d'oeuvres, I scampered on over to the wine and beer section and decided we should have a little bubbly for our date. Champagne for two please!
We drove down to the beautiful and quiet southern tip of Wrightsville Beach. Glorious doesn't even explain just how perfect it was. The weather, the scenery, all of it was just so lovely. My only regret is not having taken pictures. I held back on my social media just to enjoy the night. We picked a secluded spot and laid down our blanket and set ourselves up a nice little picnic for two.
After having our fill of crackers and cheese, I decided it was about time we broke open that champagne! Seamus said he would do the honor and turned to his side to open the bag with the bottle. It was a tad windy on the beach that evening, and he looked at me and said "Will you stand in front of me and block the wind?" I let out a sigh and picked myself up off the blanket to stand in front of him...
Where he was on one knee. Shuffling around in his USMC bag for something...and out came a little red box. My heart started pounding as he opened the box and started to speak. The only words I could conjure up were "Is this a joke?". Completely stunned by what was going on, I had no clue what to do. I heard bits and pieces of his prepared speech, but the only thing I could think was "Is this really happening to me?" Finally, he stared at me looking for a response and I was still looking at him bright eyed. Once again, he asked "Will you marry me?" With a screech and an over the top "Yes!" he slid the ring on and I bounced into his arms.
My Marine and I are engaged.
After almost hitting the four year mark, we're engaged. We have been through a tremendous amount together, both good and bad, only proving our relationship to be one of the strongest. Words can not describe the feelings I have towards him and how terrific it feels to finally say we are engaged to be married. Typing the words makes me giddy!
This silly boy stole my heart years ago and it has never been a dull moment since. My heart is filled with excitement thinking of what is to come.
Cheers to yet another fabulous adventure in my life! Goodness me, what will next week bring?
